Manipulation

Manipulation or enhancement of an image involves extensive restoration. Repair work may involve tears such as a photo being in two or more pieces. Portions of the photo may be missing which will mean rebuilding of the image. Portions may have lost so much data through fading or other damage that the restoration work requires, in essense, painting a new image or portion of the image.

Colorization is categorized here as enhancement of an image.

Description of example 2

The below image had numerous pieces missing, including a portion of the left horse, and a woman's head had been scratched out. The image is also blurred in portions due to motion while the image was being taken. This blurring could have been disguised in part but I thought it added to the history and liveliness of the photo.
